Halloween Treats   –  Catering Department : Broomstick Favors

Give the little witches-for-a-night a proper send-off with these broomsticks.

You need: two lunch-size paper bags or smaller for each, stick or pretzel rod, candy, twine and scissors. Takes a bit of juggling at first but kids get the hang of it right away.

Great as place markers at a Halloween party table. Setting one on each of the place setting then added a name tag to the broom handle.

Unfold one bag, and push out its base while folding in the left and right sides. Using scissors, cut the bag into thin strips, stopping short of the base. Cut thin strips into the top inch of the second bag. Open both bags, and place the second bag inside the shredded one; fill with candy. Insert a small branch 1 inch into the bag (I used a pretzel rod) cinch the tops of both bags, and secure with twisty tie and or black twine.

Here is a clever little trick that makes a big impact. Perfect for the center of the table! If you want one for your party please inquire with catering.

Chocolate Marshmallow Ghost Cake  Don’t be afraid of these friendly ghosts — they are easy to make. Creating enough to cover and peek out from behind a cake takes no time at all, especially with help from junior chefs. White frosting makes them look right at home.

Use your favorite chocolate cake recipe or mix or make individual cupcakes. Cake pictured here has three layers which makes it nice and tall. To frost the ghost cake, cover each of two layers with two-thirds cup Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting, and stack the layers; spread remaining frosting over top and sides of assembled cake. Frost cupcakes usual way.

To make the ghosts, you will need a miniature marshmallow, 2 regular marshmallows, and 2 chocolate sprinkles. Twist top of miniature marshmallow into a point by rolling it between your thumb and index finger. Trim all 3 marshmallows, and stick together. Twist top marshmallow (head) slightly to shape. Poke holes and insert sprinkle eyes.

Holiday Decorating Tip… Very, Very Simple…

Get out your Christmas tree lights. There coming out soon anyways. And make this clever simple and very effective decoration that will carry you thru Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas and the New Year…

Use the multi colored little lights or I prefer the little white lights. Using the paper cups that you bake muffins or cupcakes in that are festive to the occasion. Cut a small slit in the bottom and slide over the light. Hang and plug in. When Halloween holiday is over just remove the paper cups or replace with fall colors such as gold for Thanksgiving. You would be surprised and how fancy those little cups you can get. Check in the bakery section at Janssen’s or at your local party

supply store. And … you are ahead of the game because your Christmas lights are up!

This is also a perfect idea to decorate for any kind of party.
